Mars in 11th house in Vedic astrology: is it good?

अथ भौमदशाफलम्। परमोच्चगते भौमे स्वोच्चे मूलत्रिकोणगे। स्वर्क्षे केन्द्रत्रिकोणे वा लाभे वा धनगेऽपि वा।।२३।।

Now the results of Mars' dasha: when Mars is in its supreme exaltation, its own exaltation, its mulatrikona, or its own sign, situated in a kendra, a trikona, the 11th, or even the 2nd house —

राजानौ भानुहिमगू नेता ज्ञेयो धरात्मजः । बुधो राजकुमारश्च सचिवौ गुरुभार्गवौ ॥३॥

The Sun and Moon are like kings; Mars is to be known as the commander; Mercury is the prince; Jupiter and Venus are the two ministers.

कालात्मा च दिवानाथो मनः कुमुदबान्धवः । सत्त्वं कुजो विजानीयाद्बुधो वाणीप्रदायकः ॥१॥

The Sun is of the nature of Time; the Moon governs the mind; know that Mars governs courage and vitality; Mercury bestows speech.

क्रूररक्तेक्षणो भौमश्चपलोदारमूर्तिकः । पित्तप्रकृतिकः क्रोधी कृशमध्यतनुर्द्विज ॥१४॥

Mars has cruel, red eyes, a restless yet well-formed body, is of pitta constitution, irascible, and of slender waist.

नानावस्तुभवस्यापि पुत्रजायादिकस्य च । लाभवृद्धिपशूनां च भवस्थानाद्विचारयेत् ॥११॥

From the 11th house one should examine the acquisition of various goods, of sons and wife and the like, and gain and increase of livestock.

धनभावं विजानीयाद्दारकारकमेव च । एकादशे ज्येष्ठभ्रातुस्तृतीये च कनिष्ठकाः ॥३५॥

One should know the dhana-bhava [2nd] by the dara-karaka itself; in the 11th, the elder brother's [karaka]; and in the 3rd, the younger [siblings'].

स्वोच्चे शुभं बलं पूर्णं त्रिकोणे पादवर्जितम् । स्वर्क्षे दलं मित्रगेहे पादमात्रं प्रकीर्तितम् ॥५१॥

In its own exaltation, a graha's auspicious strength is full; in its moolatrikona, it is full less a quarter; in its own sign it is half; in a friend's sign it is declared to be only a quarter.

पादार्धं समभे प्रोक्तं व्यर्थं नीचास्तशत्रुभे । तद्वद्दुष्टबलं ब्रूयाद् व्यत्ययेन विचक्षणः ॥५२॥

In a neutral's sign it is declared to be an eighth; it is void in debilitation, combustion, or an enemy's sign. Likewise the wise should state malefic/inauspicious strength in the reverse order.

अजो वृषो मृगः कन्या कुलीरझषतौलिकाः । सूर्यादीनां क्रमादेतास्तुङ्गसंज्ञाः प्रकीर्तिताः ॥३८॥

Aries, Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo, Cancer, Pisces, and Libra are declared, in order, to be the signs of exaltation (uchcha) of the Sun and the other grahas.

दिग्गुणाष्टयमा भागा तिथिभूतर्क्षनखासमा । स्वोच्चात्सप्तमभं नीचं पूर्वोक्तांशैः प्रकीर्तितम् ॥३९॥

The precise degree of exaltation for each graha is given by a series of word-numerals; the sign of debilitation (nicha) is the seventh from the exaltation sign, at the same degree already stated (the exact numeric values encoded by the word-numerals in this verse are not fully certain without further cross-reference).

द्वादशभागा मेषे त्रिकोणमपरे स्वभं तु भौमस्य । उच्चफलं च कन्यायां बुधस्य तिथ्यंशकैः सदा भवेत् ॥४१॥

Mars's moolatrikona is the first twelve degrees of Aries, the rest being its own sign; Mercury's exaltation effect in Virgo extends to fifteen degrees.

समौ सितार्की शशिजश्च शत्रुर्मित्राणि शेषाः पृथिवीसुतस्य । शत्रुः शशी सूर्यसितौ च मित्रे समापरे स्युः शशिनन्दनस्य ॥४५॥

To Mars: Venus and Saturn are neutral, Mercury is an enemy, and the rest are friends. To Mercury: the Moon is an enemy, the Sun and Venus are friends, and the rest are neutral.

शुक्रस्य तु तिथयोऽशास्त्रिकोणभपरे तुले स्वराशिश्च । शनेः कुम्भे नखांशास्त्रिकोणं परतस्तु स्वराशिजं ज्ञेयम् ॥४३॥

Venus's moolatrikona spans fifteen degrees of Libra, the rest of Libra being its own sign; Saturn's moolatrikona spans twenty degrees of Aquarius, the rest being its own sign.

सुराचार्याधिपश्चास्य राशीनां गदितं मया । त्रिंशद्भागात्मकः स्थूलसूक्ष्माकरफलाय च ॥२४॥

Its ruler is Jupiter (suracharya, teacher of the gods). Thus have the natures of the signs been declared; each consists of thirty degrees, for the purpose of both gross and subtle results.

पूर्ववासी नृपज्ञातिः शैलचारी रजोगुणी । पृष्ठोदयी पावकी च मेषराशिः कुजाधिपः ॥७॥

Dwelling in the east, of royal kinship, roaming the mountains, of rajo-guna, rising by its back (prishthodaya), and of fiery nature — the sign Aries is ruled by Mars.

श्वेतः शुक्राधिपो दीर्घः चतुष्पाच्छर्वरी बली । याम्येट् ग्राम्यो वणिग्भूमिः स्त्री पृष्ठोदयो वृषः ॥८॥

White, ruled by Venus, long-bodied, quadruped, strong by night, dwelling in the south, domesticated, of the merchant class, earthy, female, and rising by its back — this is Taurus.

शीर्षोदयी नृमिथुनं सगदं च सवीणकम् । प्रत्यक्स्वामी द्विपाद्रात्रिबली ग्राम्याग्रगोऽनिली ॥९॥

Rising by its head, depicted as a pair of humans — one bearing a mace, the other a vina — ruled by Mercury (whose direction is west), biped, strong by night, foremost among domesticated creatures, and of airy nature — this is Gemini.

सिंहः सूर्याधिपः सत्त्वी चतुष्पात्क्षत्रियो बली । शीर्षोदयी बृहद्गात्रः पाण्डुः पूर्वेद्युवीर्यवान् ॥१२॥

Leo, ruled by the Sun, is of sattva-guna, quadruped, of the kshatriya class, strong, rising by its head, large-bodied, pale/tawny, and strong in the earlier part of the day.

ससस्यदहना वैश्या चित्रवर्णा प्रभञ्जिनी । कुमारी तमसायुक्ता बालभावा बुधाधिपः ॥१४॥

Associated with grain and fire, of the vaishya class, of variegated color, windy (restless) in nature; a maiden, joined with tamas, of youthful disposition, and ruled by Mercury.

शीर्षोदयी द्युवीर्याढ्यस्तथा शूद्रो रजोगुणी । शुक्रोऽधिपो पश्चिमेशो तुलो मध्यतनुर्द्विपात् ॥१५॥

Head-rising, endowed with strength by day, of the shudra class, of rajo-guna; ruled by Venus, lord of the west, of medium body, and biped — this is Tula (Libra).

शीर्षोदयोऽथ स्वल्पाङ्गो बहुपाद्ब्राह्मणो बली । सौम्यस्थो दिनवीर्याढ्यः पिशङ्गो जलभूचरः । रोमस्वाढ्योऽतितीक्ष्णाङ्गो वृश्चिकश्च कुजाधिपः ॥१६॥

Head-rising, small-bodied, many-legged, of the brahmin class, strong, associated with the benefics, strong by day, tawny-colored, moving through water and earth; abundant in bristles and extremely sharp-limbed — this is Vrishchika (Scorpio), ruled by Mars.

अश्वजङ्घो त्वथ धनुर्गुरू स्वामी च सात्त्विकः ॥१७॥

Having the shanks of a horse (the sign Dhanu, Sagittarius); ruled by Jupiter, and of sattva-guna.

रसाशामुनिधृत्यब्दा भूपविधृतिवत्सराः। सप्तेन्दवो नगा व्योमबाहवो क्रमतो मताः।।१५।।

[Their dasha periods, encoded as number-words, are, in order:] six, ten, seven, eighteen, sixteen, nineteen, seventeen, seven, and twenty years, respectively held [as the dasha-years for Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu, and Venus].

सूर्येन्दुक्ष्माजतमसो वाक्पतिर्मन्दचन्द्रजा। केतुशुक्रौ क्रमादेते विज्ञेयाश्च दशाधिपाः।।१४।।

The Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu (tamas), Jupiter (vakpati), Saturn, Mercury (manda-chandra-ja), Ketu, and Venus — these, in order, should be known as the dasha-lords.

सम्पूर्णबल संयुक्ते शुभदृष्टे शुभांशके। राज्यलाभं भूमिलाभं धनधान्यादिलाभकृत्।।२४।।

[If Mars is] endowed with full strength, aspected by benefics, and in a benefic's navamsha — it brings gain of kingdom, gain of land, and gain of wealth, grain, and the like.

आधिक्यं राजसन्मानं वाहनाम्बरभूषणम्। विदेशे स्थानलाभं च सोदराणां सुखंलभेत्।।२५।।

An increase in royal honor, [gain of] vehicles, garments, and ornaments; gain of position abroad, and happiness from brothers is obtained.

कलत्रपुत्रविभवं राजसन्मानमेव च। दशादौ सुखमाप्रोति दशांते कष्टमादिशेत्।।२७।।

Prosperity of wife and children, and royal honor as well [occur]; one obtains happiness at the beginning of the dasha, [but] hardship should be declared at its end.

पञ्चमे तु शनिक्षेत्रे तस्मिन् शनियुते यदि। लाभे भौमेन संयुक्ते बहुद्रव्यस्य नायकः।।५।।

If the 5th house is Saturn's own sign and joined by Saturn, and Mars joins the 11th house, one becomes lord of abundant wealth.

सुखे मन्दे रविभुते चन्द्रो भाग्यगतो यदि । लाभस्थानगते भौमे गोमहिष्यादिलाभकृत् ॥६९॥

If Saturn and the Sun are in the 4th (house of happiness), the Moon is in the 9th, and Mars is in the 11th, [the native] gains cows, buffaloes and the like.

षष्ठाष्टमव्ययस्थौ चेद्धनलाभाधिपौ यदि । लाभे कुजे धने राहौ राजदण्डाद्धनक्षयः ॥४१॥

If the lords of the 2nd and 11th are in the 6th, 8th, or 12th, and Mars is in the 11th while Rahu is in the 2nd, wealth is destroyed through punishment by the king.

नीचादिदुःस्थगे भौमे शुभवलविवर्जिते। पापयुक्ते पापदृष्टे सा दशा नेष्टदायिका।।२८।।

When Mars is debilitated and in a difficult house (dushtana), devoid of benefic strength, conjoined with malefics and aspected by malefics — that dasha is a giver of misfortune.

सूर्यस्थे लग्नात्केन्द्रत्रिकोणलाभगे स्वोच्चे स्वक्षेत्रगे भौमे शुभकार्यशुभादिकम्।।३२।।

In Sun's dasha, when Mars — exalted or in its own sign — is in a kendra, trikona, or the 11th from the lagna, its antardasha brings auspicious undertakings and other good results.

भूलाभं कृषिलाभं च धनधान्यादिवृद्धिदम्। गृहक्षेत्रादिलाभं च रक्तवस्त्रादिलाभकृत्।।३३।।

There is gain of land, gain through agriculture, and increase of wealth and grain; gain of house and land, and gain of red garments and the like.

कुजस्यान्तर्गते भौमे लग्नात्केन्द्रत्रिकोणगे। लाभे वा धनसंयुक्ते दुश्चिक्ये शुभसंयुते।।१५६।।

In Mars's mahadasha, Mars's own antardasha: when Mars is joined with benefics in a kendra or trikona from the lagna, or in the 11th, the 2nd, or the 3rd —

लग्नाधिपेन संयुक्ते राजानुग्रहवैभवम्। लक्ष्मीकटाक्षचिह्नानि नष्टराज्यार्थलाभकृत्।।१५७।।

— or joined with the lagna-lord, there is splendor through royal grace, signs of Lakshmi's favorable glance, and recovery of a lost kingdom and wealth.

राहोरन्तर्गते भौमे लग्नाल्लाभत्रिकोणगे। केन्द्रे वा शुभसंयुक्ते स्वोच्चे स्वक्षेत्रगेऽपि वा।।३०५।।

In Rahu's mahadasha, Mars's antardasha: when Mars, joined with benefics, is in the 11th, trikona, or a kendra from the lagna, or in its own exaltation or own sign —

नष्टराज्यधनप्राप्तिः गृहक्षेत्राभिवृद्धिकृत्। इष्टदेवप्रसादेन सन्तानसुखभोजनम्।।३०६।।

— there is recovery of a lost kingdom and wealth, and increase of house and land; through the grace of one's chosen deity, happiness through offspring and comfort in food.

मन्दस्यान्तर्गते भौमे केन्द्रलाभत्रिकोणगे। तुङ्गे स्वक्षेत्रगे वापि दशाधिपसमन्विते।।५२।।

In Saturn's mahadasha, Mars's antardasha: when Mars, joined with the dasha-lord, is in a kendra, the 11th, or a trikona, or in its own exaltation or own sign —

लग्नाधिपेन संयुक्ते आदौ सौख्यं धनागमम्। राजप्रीतिकरं सौख्यं वाहनाम्बरभूषणम्।।५३।।

— or joined with the lagna-lord, in its antardasha there is happiness and the arrival of wealth at the beginning, comfort through royal favor, and gain of vehicles, garments, and ornaments.

शुक्रस्यान्तर्गते भौमे लग्नात्केन्द्रत्रिकोणगे। स्वोच्चे वा स्वक्षेत्रे भौमे लाभे वा बलसंयुते।।२९।।

In Venus's mahadasha, Mars's antardasha: when Mars is in a kendra or trikona from the lagna, or in its own exaltation or own sign, or strong in the 11th —

लग्नाधिपेन संयुक्ते कर्मभाग्येशसंयुते। तद्भुक्तौ राजयोगादिसम्पदं शुभशोभनम्।।३०।।

— or joined with the lagna-lord, or with the lords of the 10th and 9th, in its antardasha there is splendid prosperity through rajayogas.

लग्नाधिपेन संयुक्ते सौख्यं राजप्रियं सुखम्। भाग्यलाभाधिपैर्युक्ते लाभश्चैव भविष्यति।।३४।।

When joined with the lagna-lord, there is comfort and the happiness of royal favor; when joined with the lords of the 9th and 11th, there will indeed be gain.

बहुसेनाधिपत्यं च शत्रुनाशं मनोदृढम्। आत्मबन्धुसुखं चैव भ्रातृवर्धनं तथा।।३५।।

There is command over a large army, destruction of enemies, firmness of mind, happiness of one's own kinsmen, and an increase of/among brothers.

पुत्रोत्सवादिसन्तोषं गृहे गोक्षीरसंकुलम्। स्वोच्चे वा स्वर्क्षगे भौमे स्वांशे वा बलसंयुते।।१५८।।

There is joy in celebrations for sons and the like, and the household abounds in cows and milk, when strong Mars is in its own exaltation, own sign, or own navamsha.

गृहक्षेत्राभिवृद्धिश्च गोमहिष्यादिलाभकृत्। महाराजप्रसादेन इष्टसिद्धिः सुखावहा।।१५९।।

There is increase of house and land, and gain of cows, buffaloes, and the like; through the great king's favor, one's desired aim is accomplished, bringing happiness.

सेनाधिपत्यं नृपप्रीतिः कृषिगोधान्यसंग्रहः। नूतनस्थाननिर्माणं भ्रातृवर्गेष्टसौख्यकृत्।।५४।।

There is the position of a commander, royal favor, accumulation through agriculture, cattle, and grain, construction of a new dwelling, and desired happiness among one's brothers.

वस्त्राभरणभूम्यादेरिष्टसिद्धिः सुखावहा। षष्ठाष्टमव्यये वापि दायेशाद्वा तथैव च।।३१।।

There is accomplishment of one's desired aim through garments, ornaments, and land, bringing happiness. But if Mars is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th from the lagna or the dasha-lord —

शीतज्वरादिपीडा च पितृमातृभयावहा। ज्वराद्यधिकरोगाश्च स्थानभ्रंशो मनोरुजा।।३२।।

— there is affliction from cold fever and the like, and fear for one's parents; many diseases beginning with fever, loss of position, and mental disease.

स्वबन्धुजनहानिश्च कलहो राजविद्वेषम्। राजद्वारजनद्वेषो धनधान्यव्ययाधिकम्।।३३।।

There is loss of one's own kinsmen, quarreling and hostility from the king, hostility from people at the royal court, and excessive expenditure of wealth and grain.

लाभं धनं सुखं वस्त्रं स्वर्णक्षेत्रादिसंग्रहम्। व्यये क्षेत्ररुजं भ्रातृनाशं च कुरुते कुजः।।५७।।

11th — gain of wealth, clothing, gold, land; 12th — eye-disease, harm to brothers.
